Christmas is right around the corner and whether you started decorating for the holidays before Thanksgiving, or after, it’s about that time where everyone will be in full on Christmas mode. One of my favorite traditions around this time of year is heading to a tree farm and cutting down a Christmas tree. Something about the fresh smell of pine needles and the unique shapes just makes the Christmas magic feel alive in my house. Cutting down our Christmas tree has been a tradition in my family since I was a little girl, and I look forward to it every year. I’m thankful my husband wanted to carry on the tradition!
When we moved to Indianapolis, I was so happy when we heard about Dull’s Tree Farm in Thorntown, IN. There’s something about Christmastime in the Midwest– you can really enjoy all the festive things. Dull’s Tree Farm is the perfect place to go to start to get in the holiday spirit. Whether you want to cut your own tree down, grab a pre-cut one, or just come for the experience, there is something for everyone. Along with their Christmas trees, they have a gift shop and a wreath shop. My family loves to bundle up nice and warm, grab our hot chocolate and our kettle corn, and start the search for the perfect tree. Dull’s offers 50 acres of beautiful trees. Trees you can cut yourself include Scotch Pine, White Pine, and Canaan Fir. Opening date is November 27 at 9am.
Along with their Christmas trees, Dull’s also offers a pumpkin farm in the Fall, and they also have a Bed & Breakfast called the Stone Cabin Inn. It overlooks the 50 acres of beautiful land, and it has a wood-burning fireplace that is perfect for a cozy night in.
I love being able to support small businesses–especially this year. Some other local Christmas tree farms to support this year:
Gore’s Christmas Trees– already cut trees, wreaths, roping, and greenery.
Sambol’s Tree Farm– pre-cut trees and choose and cut trees and food trucks.
Lost Forty Tree Farm– choose and cut trees
Allisonville Nursery– pre-cut trees, wreaths, and Christmas decor.
Sullivan’s Hardware– pre-cut trees and Christmas decor.
Christmas has always been a magical time, full of wonder and possibilities and joy. And we could all use a little extra of that this year. So bring your tree home, put on some Christmas music, grab a glass of wine, start a fire in your fireplace, and enjoy a cozy evening in with your friends, spouse, or family, stringing lights on your Christmas tree, and going into full Christmas decorating mode 🙂
