Here Comes The Sun, Do-Do-Do-Do!
This year for the 19th time out of 123 recorded in American history, Punxsutawney Phil has NOT seen his shadow. I repeat, NOT seen his shadow. We all know what that means. Get ready for sunshine, mood improvement, increased productivity and last but not least blow the dust off those swim suits, those Ray-Bans, those sandals of yours because spring has sprung. Us mid-westerners know full and well how over-excited we can get when a slight positive change in the weather hits. But hey, can you blame us?
In following, we have decided to come up with a list of ways to prepare for this monumental moment us mid-westerners wait for every year.
1.Declutter Space + Mind
Worse than having a cluttered home or work space is having a cluttered mind. Having a cluttered mind can leave you in disarray, your mind is pointing in every direction possible trying to check off everything on your list but in reality very little to nothing actually gets done. Believe it or not, a cluttered space and cluttered mind go hand in hand. Go through your closet! Go through your dressers! The all wise question by Marie Kondo, “Do this spark joy?” If it doesn’t, let it go.
A great way to keep your mind at ease is writing things down. It’s great to have confidence in yourself but don’t be so hard on your mind and expect it to remember everything. Head to your local Target and pick up a rad journal that makes you feel like a new person. Whether it’s an appointment with your financial planner, recollecting a bad day at work and how it made you feel or a reminder to buy some more OJ the next time you’re at the grocery store. Write. It. Down.
Chill with the multi-tasking! Know your limits. We all strive to be superman or woman but be mindful of your sanity. Your mental health is invaluable. Be kind to yourself! There’s only one of you.
2.Put That Tax Refund to Good Use
Life is full of crazy surprises. The thing about surprises is they come out of nowhere and we’re left feeling , for lack of better word..screwed. One way to be an adult about this huge sum of money you just acquired is starting or increasing your Emergency Fund.
Our #2 path for your refund is paying off high interest debt. Whether it’s paying off your car, student loans or just those late night decisions with credit cards when you really wanted that new pair of shoes, but didn’t have the funds right then and there. We have ALL been there.
If you don’t check any of those boxes, put it towards something you NEED. Having car trouble, been putting off dental work or ignoring that new mole on your shoulder? Any of these would definitely be something you could spare the money for. Get it done.
3.Plan Your First Trip For Traveling Season
Now let’s just assume you’re sitting pretty and have nothing that takes high priority; book a trip! Summer is famous for vacationing and enjoying all the good that can come from spring and summer. Been having a rough year? Get yourself out of the house and OUT OF INDIANA. Us midwesterners know all about the mood changes that come with living where we do, wintertime can be harsh on the chemical balance of our bodies. Do yourself a favor and head south, bury your toes in the sand and enjoy the rays( after applying sunscreen of course). The change of scenery will make all the difference.
It’s been a rough winter but spring is here and summer is not far behind. Let’s take advantage of the weather and motivation it brings with it!
