Fall Road Trip to Michigan

October 19, 2020

2020 has been a weird year with Covid, and while flying isn’t everyone’s favorite thing to do right now, a road trip is totally doable! So that’s what we decided to do. And what better time than Michigan in the Fall! One of my faaaavorite places.

We road tripped with some of our besties to Stanwood, MI…a town none of us had ever heard of (eeeek!) But during our Airbnb search, we stumbled upon a cute lake house that just so happened to check all of our boxes.

WHERE WE STAYED:

A completely renovated red lake house.

This adorable lake house had a fire pit, grill, SUP boards, a golf cart to explore, and a beautiful view of the lake. I think it would also be a perfect place to stay in the summer!

WHERE WE ATE:

Antler’s Fireside Grill in Stanwood, about 15 minutes from our Airbnb.

They had a cute little patio with a lakefront view. The food was great and the atmosphere was perfect. We got the “Bang Bang Walleye” for an appetizer and it was aaaamazing.

New Holland Brewing- The Knickerbocker -Grand Rapids

A super cool atmosphere and great beer and spirits.

Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria & Brewery in Grand Rapids – known for it’s sour ales.

WHAT WE DID:

We went to two different wineries one afternoon and they were both great and within 15 minutes of our Airbnb. Someone recommended a third called Heavenly Vineyards that we didn’t end up making it to, but we heard great things about!

The Winery at Young Farms -Mecosta, MI.

We did a flight or cider and wine at both places–which makes it more of an experience, in my opinion! So fun to try an assortment of what they have to offer!

Gwin Girls Winery and Tasting Room – Remus, MI.

Heavenly Vineyards – Morley, MI.

When we weren’t out and about eating and drinking, we were most likely back at the Airbnb eating and drinking 😉 We did a couple bonfires, took out the SUP boards, fished off the dock, and rode around the lake on the golf cart.

Here’s a few other snapshots from our weekend:

The view from our Airbnb. I couldn’t get enough of the changing colors of the trees! So pretty.
Views from our golf cart ride around the lake. The trees were every shade of yellow, orange, and red.
Apple Cider Kentucky Mules around the bonfire. The sky was SO clear (since we were kind of in the middle of nowhere) that you could see SO many stars. It was beautiful!
A classic fall staple- some homeade chili on the back patio.
The boys took the SUP boards out around the lake. They said the water was crystal clear!
We took a walk along the river in downtown Grand Rapids.

We were a little hesitant when we realized we were staying in a town with a population of 210 people, but we’ll definitely be going back to the red house on the lake that felt like an oasis. It was the perfect getaway with enough things to keep us busy, and yet a place where we felt like we could fully enjoy and get away from the hustle and bustle and just spend time together. Hiiiiighly recommend!
