Excited for the Indy 500? We are too! Let’s make a month of it!
May 17 – Indy 500 Practice Day
Hang out while the drivers practice for the greatest spectacle in racing. Get a better feel for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway with less people around and the chance to explore some of the attractions you may not get to see the day of the big race. Gates open at 10am.
May 18 – Fast Friday Practice at the Indy 500
This is the last practice day for drivers & crews before qualifications. Gates open at 10am, drivers begin at 11am.
May 19 – 500 Festival Breakfast at the Brickyard
Midwestern Engineers, Inc. is hosting the 2018 Breakfast at the Brickyard to honor the Indy 500 and everything it brings to Indiana. Indiana Mayors and other special guest speakers will be in attendance. Tickets are currently sold out, but if you ask around, you may just be able to get your hands on one.
May 19– Indy Lagerfest
Daredevil Brewing Co. is located 4 blocks from the track and is celebrating the history of lager beers and the unique history of racing! 33 of the best lager beers from around the world will be featured. There will also be live music and food trucks. You are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance that will get you beer samples and a souvenir glass.
PS – Nothing against Red Stripe, but our guess is the lagers being featured are a bit more ‘craft’.
May 19 – Indy 500 – Crown Royal Armed Forces Weekend – Qualifications Day 1
Aside from being a mouth full to pronounce, this is the weekend eve of the big race. Drivers and crews are beginning their qualifications and vendors are beginning to roll into IMS. Gates open at 7am and the weather is looking like it’s going to be beautiful (you can’t hold us liable if the weather is not actually looking beautiful, sorry!)
May 16-19 – Tyr Pro Swim Series
Need to cleanse yourself from racecars and the sun for a bit? Checkout the Pro Swim Series at IUPUI. Katie Ledecky, Simone Manual, Lilly King, Kelsi Worrell, Nathan Adrian, Cody Miller, and Matt Grevers will all be in attendance.
May 16-20 – Mecum Spring Classic Car Auction

LIV Tip – They serve beer at the zoo now
May 25 – Miller Lite Carb Day
Carb Day is arguably (don’t @ us) more fun than the actual race day. Specifically because it’s on a Friday, so you get to miss work! Carb Day is the final practice day for drivers, as well as the Freedom 500 race and Indy 500 Pit Stop Competition.
May 25 – Train and Blues Travelers Concert
This concert begins at 3:30pm and is included with your Carb Day ticket. Free concert? Heck yeah.
May 25 – 500 Festival Memorial Service
Honor the Indiana men and women who perished while serving in the armed forces at the Indianapolis War Memorial. The Indianapolis 500 is a very exciting day for us Indiana natives, but don’t let that distract you from the real reason you’re getting that 3-day weekend – Memorial Day.
May 26 – The IPL 500 Festival Parade
Better than the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in our books! This year’s theme is “Illuminate. Innovate. Indianapolis.” The parade starts at 11:45am.
May 26 – Firestone Legends Day & Sam Hunt Concert
Celebrate the legends of the Indianapolis 500 & Sam Hunt –

If you’re shooting for a celebrity sighting this race weekend, The Snake Pit Ball is where you’ll achieve that goal. Tickets are hard to come by, but the event will not disappoint. This year’s theme is Fast & Fabulous, The Future of Speed.”. Tickets are $325 and attendees must be 21 years of age or older.
May 27 – Indy 500 Snake Pit
One of the best EDM concerts in the United States happens at 7am in the Snake Pit. Your dad probably has some insane stories about the Snake Pit ‘back in his day’, but we promise it’s just as fun now. See performances from Deadmau5, Diplo, Axwell & Ingrosso, and Griz before the green flag.
May 27 – The Indy 500
The big one. Pretty self explanatory at this point! Here’s the schedule –
6 am – Public Gates Open
12:20 pm – 102nd Running of the Indianapolis 500 Presented by PennGrade Motor Oil
5 pm – Public Gates Close
Phew.. I’d love to talk to the Hoosier that can make it to all these festive events!! We’re tired of typing, but if you want more Indy 500 themed events, check out VisitIndy.com
